Talent flows from one generation to the next, and I am thankful that I am related to my mom. She abundantly passed the gene along to me. The following are examples of her current work. After photographing her favorite images, she easily reproduces each tiny detail in a difficult medium...
watercolor. This is my favorite. It is free flowing and from the sea. Although it is vibrantly descriptive, the scene is calm. It's overall tone relaxes me and at the same time elicits a feeling of complete awe.
Mom LOVES to garden, and shares my love of tractors, trucks, and tools!! But mostly she knows her flowers... how to plant them, care for them, and get them to grow EVERYWHERE she goes! It's contagious, I've definitely caught the bug, and plan to pass it along to my daughters.
There is nothing quite like playing in the dirt!
She has also passed along someother traits such as her immense love of all animals. Her backyard in Florida is similar to mine in Michigan... full of wildlife! The large pond behind her home provides sanctuary for crocodile, big turtles, and sand cranes. She doesn't sit and idly watch while the turtles play and birds fly... she feeds them daily, and they have come to expect good treats. The sand cranes are so smitten with her and the corn she feeds them, they will literally knock on her back door and jiggle the door knob if she is late in feeding them!!!
photos of both backyards, my mom's in Florida and mine in Michigan. Something about the apple falling not far from the tree comes to mind. I am glad I know what tree I fell from, and where I am headed. I just have to hope I can do it all as well as she does.
