Henri Matisse, the french artist who most notably used color as his creative tool, painted Woman Sleeping on a Corner of the Table in 1939. When I first saw this masterpiece, I felt a peaceful serenity that comes from the comfort of sleeping soundly. What is so remarkable about the woman in the painting is that she apparently fell asleep unexpectedly, perhaps during the middle of her day, unafraid of discovery or intrusion of any kind. There is a slight smile on her face, which suggests she did not fall asleep from exhaustion or stress, but rather intended to merely take a "cat nap".
I made this bed, inspired by Matisse, with a solid round wooden base and plywood walls which are plastered and hand painted. This unique bed literally surrounds our pets with one big, beautiful, and very colorful hug as they sleep without fear of any kind.
