Sleeping Soundly in a Smucci Original Cat Bowl Bed

       

 

 

 

Marcus takes a 2 hour nap in a Smucci Original Cat Bowl Bed. He climbed right in... no Smucci throw, no comforting cushion...just an antique, well worn, wooden bowl which has been beautifully hand-painted and sealed. This medium size bowl has 5 round ball feet attached to the bottom. It's appearance is completely amusing, yet totally functional. The beauty of simplicity is revealed.

The Original Cat Bowl Bed

The original cat bowl bed was inspired by my cat "Marcus" who prefers sleeping in sinks. The shape of the sink, which provides him with comfort and security, served as the major design element for these beds. Antique wooden bowls are used, which simulate the cradling quality of the sink. The really fun part of creating these beds is attaching the hand painted bowl to 3 very amusing and highly unusual feet. Consistent with all ddk designs, the cat bowl bed is like a big hug that keeps our cats feeling safe and loved. The cat bowl bed is also wonderful for small dogs and puppies.

Here is another example of "Marcus" enjoying the comfort of a sink. I am convinced that the oval shape and smooth, slightly rounded surface is tactally appealling to cats as it provides a cozy space to curl up in. Please also look at some of my antique enamel basins which have been restored to serve as original cat bowl beds. A small pillow or "throw" in a soft fabric such as "minkie" are being added as an option to the original cat bowl bed.                                  

This original cat bowl, recently designed, painted and assembled, was sitting on my kitchen island when Marcus hopped in to take a "cat-nap". The feet are 3 wonderful pink pigs, which hold a large, antique wooden bowl, in perfect balance, on top of them. Actually, this cat bowl could also serve as a centerpiece for a table to hold fruit, cookies, candy, etc. It's just so fun to look at, and brings a smile to your face.
